SUSTAINABILITY & AG 4.0

EXPLORE THE ISSUES

Which UNDP sustainability goals does Ag 4.0 support?

UNDP
SUSTAINABILITY GOALS

The following five goals are part of the Sustainable Development Goals framework, as defined by the United Nations Development Programme. Here we have included only the goals that are aligned to agriculture 4.0, highlighting those that MyCrops’ solutions address directly.

GOAL 2
END HUNGER

821 million people around the world are chronically underfed, largely due to the effects of environmental degradation. As Ag 4.0 spreads, so will the implementation of resilient farming practices that increase productivity and production while maintaining healthier ecosystems.

GOAL 9
INDUSTRY, INNOVATION & INFRASTRUCTURE

26% of global workers are employed in agriculture. Equipping these growers with the tools to tap into Ag 4.0 allows them to plan their growing cycle more strategically and catalyzes sustainability at scale.

GOAL 11
SUSTAINABLE CITIES & COMMUNITIES

The food sector accounts for nearly 22% of total greenhouse gas emissions, much of it from the conversion of forests into farmland. Sustainable urbanization, including urban farming, can help reduce that impact. But first we need to invest in technology that supports efficient cultivation and automation of indoor growing facilities.

GOAL 12
RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION & PRODUCTION

1.3 billion tonnes of food is lost or wasted every year. MyCrops’ smart crop monitoring tools can help prevent up to 60% of crop losses at the production level, while reducing the use of toxic pesticides through targeted spraying.

GOAL 15
LIFE ON LAND

In the 20 short years spanning 2000-2020, we’ve cut down 100 million hectares of forest. Slowing deforestation is critical to combat climate change and biodiversity loss. Ag 4.0 technologies such as MyCrops support automation of indoor facilities, paving the way for urban farming to reduce the need for deforestation in order to meet global food demands.
